Wellness Strategies from Podcasters and Online Creators
Wellness is a holistic, personalized endeavor. For caregivers, it’s literally the “fuel” for a long marathon – covering physical health (movement, sleep, nutrition), mental/emotional resilience, purpose and intention, finances, safe environments, and strong social ties. Information, community, and practical tools all weave together to make healthy habits more adoptable and sustainable.
Our guests – all podcasters and online creators in the aging, longevity, and caregiving landscape – expanded on the importance for all of us to incorporate the multi-faceted elements of wellness into our daily lives.
Nicole Will (willGather): This podcast elevates experts (founders, clinicians, authors) to give caregivers hope, supported by actionable tools. Nicole emphasized individualized wellness across physical, emotional, spiritual domains, and utilizing support groups and practical tools. She spotlighted past shows addressing a wide range of topics, such as dementia resources (Teepa Snow), working-caregiver advocacy (Liz O’Donnell), brain-healthy nutrition (Dr. Edward Park/NeuroReserve), movement & neuroplasticity (Mark Evans/Jintronix), toxin-reduced environments (Viking Pure), and purpose (Anna Hall).
Josef Katz (Prime Life Podcast): Prime Life Podcast (produced by Nassau Financial Group) serves consumers 55+ and focuses on living longer and better via purpose, exercise, diet, healthcare, as well as via stabilizing your finances (which can be a stress reducer, and therefore wellness enabler). Weekly episodes aim for takeaways that listeners can implement immediately, and the show frequently cross-pollinates with aging/age-tech communities.
JJ Elliott Hill (Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver): This podcast focuses on the caregiver’s voice – including “the good, the bad, the ugly.” JJ emphasized the need for peer support, mental health, and safe spaces that allow and encourage family caregivers to “say the quiet parts” out loud. She also championed practical tools such as journaling.
Kelly Stranburg (Self-Care Friday): Through her social media videos, Kelly emphasizes the need for folks to give themselves permission to prioritize themselves – with small, consistent acts that make a big difference. Personal well-being improves how we show up at work, and in caregiving.
Steve Gurney (Positive Aging Community): 350+ interactive programs on wide-ranging topics such as solo aging, downsizing, innovation/tech. Steve noted the benefits of meditation – including for cognitive disorders – and the importance for aging adults to cultivate a personal village. And don’t forget your sense of humor!
