Accessibility and Community in Japan
Community
Some clarifications from Debbie Howard, Ray Gordon and Linda Sherman all who lived in Japan for a long time.
Japan is known for valuing the importance of the group over the individual. (“You Gotta Have Wa” by Robert Whiting). As in many countries in Asia, the eldest child is responsible for caring for their parents. There are groups of older women who have travel together and maintain social connections.

Accessibility
Building codes are actually not amazing. You will find steep narrow staircases in bars, restaurants and homes.
Especially in preparation for the 2020 Olympics some awesome public toilets were built.
