PT and OT with Benjamin Surmi, Paul Petitt, Brett Adler, David Richards, Gina Adams, Carol Chiang OT and Anthony Stannard DPT, ONR

Special Guest Benjamin Surmi introduced our PT OT topic.

Paul Petitt: ‘The value we provide to the individual is to focus our services on prevention and proactively address issues that would otherwise interfere with the older adult.’

David Richards: ‘We have a tool called Performance plus which is like Peloton for an older individual. It’s designed to be tailored to where their mobility is and where they’re at in that journey and to continually evaluate mobility to adapt that journey and improve results. And we’re really just moving into this elderly population. We come at it from the traditional physical therapy space.’

Gina Adams: ‘We developed the world’s first foldable, portable parallel bars on wheels in 2021.’ We were awarded a contract by the VA to develop a mobile device that is easy to transport directly to the patients to help prevent patient falls.’

Carol Chiang: ‘Most builders here are tract builders. Your choice is between four different houses. I’ve done a lot of consults with clients trying to help them get that forever home on the first go. But it’s tough because the builders have to manage expenses. I encourage people if they’re really thinking about aging in place to build exactly what they need for how they live.’

Anthony Stannard: ‘With our touch program we partner with senior living communities to become their full time onsite rehab therapy provider. That allows us to execute a concierge base model to enhance access to services for residents and create a proactive, productive environment in collaboration with the wellness teams, their providers, executive directors, family members. We’ve been able to reduce falls 30 to 40%. We really put a lot of focus on cognitive impairment.’
