Living Choices with NUUage Coliving, Furnished Finder and WheelPad L3C

Linda Sherman introduced our August 20, 2026 Rethinking Aging Club Podcast Living Choices topic: Where and how we live becomes an increasingly important question as we age. Most of us want to remain independent and in control of those decisions, yet many homes aren’t designed for changing mobility needs, housing costs are rising, and many older adults – especially women – live alone. In this episode, we explored three very different approaches that expand our living choices: intentional coliving, longer-term furnished housing, and accessible living spaces that can be added to an existing home.

Elizabeth White discussed the concept of “Golden Girls” style co-living to combat loneliness and financial precarity among older women. She highlights the importance of psychological readiness for shared living and advocates for developers to create more “missing middle” housing options. Ray Gordon introduced a potential hurdle with current zoning regulations that do not account for high-density or non-traditional residential units.

Cami Nariño explained how Furnished Finder serves as a marketplace for furnished rentals of 30 days or more, catering to relocating families and traveling healthcare professionals. The platform allows landlords, many of whom are over 55, to turn unused spaces like guest houses or basements into income-producing assets. Unlike other platforms, Furnished Finder utilizes a yearly listing fee rather than per-booking commissions, facilitating direct negotiation between users. Cami leads a fully remote global team of 200+, including an operations team in Colombia that’s 90% women, many of whom have found new pathways into tech through her leadership.

Julie Lineberger explained how the WheelPad pads are dignified alternatives to skilled nursing or assisted living, allowing families to stay together. We learned how their L3C (low-profit limited liability company) status works. There are different models, including a suite pad for bedroom/bathroom setups and a studio pad that includes a kitchenette. Six-month minimum lease or purchase with buyback available. Based in Vermont.
